…. he will be missed……
We had the solemn duty today of reciting a few words at the funeral of Brian Donnelly.
A funeral is always a sad occasion, but it is also a celebration of a life well-lived. In Brian’s case, he spent much of his working life bettering the education standards of the next generation of New Zealanders. He was a man of great intellect and full of compassion for humanity.
Brian was a great friend, a loyal colleague and a fine New Zealander. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts remain with his wife and family.

NZ is a poorer place today for Brian’s passing. I note that he died on the birthday of another great New Zealander, Rob Muldoon. My sympathy to his family and thanks for sharing a special man with the country he served so well.

Brian was a special friend of many years standing. He was always ready to lend a helping hand whether the problem was big or small. We learned of Brian’s passing via the internet as we now live in Oman and it was a shock that will linger for a long time. When we return to NZ we shall find a land bereft of an amazing person and the homecoming will be filled with sadness. So young, and so well loved.
