Winston says...

… Some questions for today……

Are you as sick and tired as we are will the unrelenting attacks on New Zealand First? Are you sick and tired of the half truths the foreign owned media spin – all targeting one party and one party leader?

Have you ever wondered why they are doing this?

Why they have singled out one party and have been so unrelenting in their attacks that they have worked themselves into a frenzy?

Have you ever wondered why when John Key gets caught out not telling the truth about his shares it is buried away on page six – and yet any old false accusation against Winston Peters is plastered all over the front page?

Have you ever wondered why the media are obsessing about a guy who didn’t even get a diplomatic appointment – yet this is portrayed as a crime?

That when a Minister makes a decision based on the advice of his officials this is a signal of wrongdoing?

Have you wondered why some are so low in their standards they would harass the victim of a most violent crime to create a cheap headline to attack New Zealand First?

Have you ever wondered why it is front page news every time someone falsely accuses New Zealand First and yet every time we are cleared of the same accusations the story is either not run or buried?

And that is the nub of the issue – every time an independent body has looked into New Zealand First we have been cleared. That’s right, cleared.

So why the ongoing attacks – what is the truth of the matter?

The truth of the matter is that there are forces at play in New Zealand who will do anything to take New Zealand First and Winston Peters out. They are not interested in the facts. They are not interested in balance. They are not interested in what is best for ordinary New Zealanders. They want unbridled power because they have a plan for New Zealand that is anathema to New Zealand First. That’s what New Zealand First is really guilty of in their eyes – standing in the way of their lust for power.

And I’ll tell you what else New Zealand First is really guilty of.

We delivered the SuperGold Card and free off peak travel to seniors, plus 5000 business outlets offering discounts – we are guilty of that.

We are guilty of increasing New Zealand Superannuation – that’s true.

It is true that we lifted the minimum wage to $12 an hour – guilty as charged.

We are definitely guilty of putting 1000 more frontline police on the streets – we’ll put our hand up for that one.

We are guilty of cutting business taxes – yes it is all true.

We are guilty of putting $530 million extra into eldercare.

We are guilty of making sure immigration laws were re-written.

We are guilty of saving the racing industry – yes that’s right we did it.

And we are even guilty of having toll free bridge built for Tauranga.

These are things that forces opposed to New Zealand First want to reverse. We won’t let them. And we can promise you the following – after this election we will be guilty of a whole lot more.

We will be guilty of increasing superannuation further.

We will be guilty of adding power discounts and lower medical costs to the SuperGold Card.

We will be guilty of taking on gangs and destroying the drug trade.

We will be guilty of protecting your jobs by cutting immigration.

We will be guilty of making Kiwibank big enough to take on the Aussie banks.

We will be guilty of rewriting the Reserve Bank Act to force interest rates down.

We will be guilty of lifting minimum wages to $15 an hour.

And we will be guilty of growing our export industries through tax incentives.

We will be guilty of lowering GST to 10%.

And we will be guilty of buying back more of your assets that were sold by thoughtless governments of the past.

Yes we are totally sick of all these feeble allegations.
I live in the Botany ( Auckland )area
and read the nearby area free local paper “The Howick and Pakuranga Times”.Helen Mulford is the NZ First candidate for the Hunua electorate.
She has spoken at many electoral meetings in this huge electoral area. However, this newspaper did not include her photo, or views in a recent edition– all other 7 candidates were represented. Her name has also been excluded from their Election 2008 home page. After many of us complaining, later editions included her info– their excuse being that it was the canditates responsibiliy to advise local papers, which I know she did!– and the majority of the canditates to this seat are new, and would not have been aware to do this.Even the local papers are full of liars!

Yes absolutely feed-up with the news media, by way of papers & broadcasting & their pathetic reporting & I have told them so.
I have taken it upon myself to print off all relevant material from your website & hand it around to as many people as possible, so they see the truth, most are impressed & realise they are only getting the negative & half stories from the media. What is a worry though, is that so many ask “where do we find the website?” There are so many people out here that don’t know how to use a computer to their advantage.
I have made copies of this article & will spread it around. What more can I do?

  3. Glenn Moir Says:

Im with Judy in regards that I am ’spreading the gospel of NZ First whenever and wherever I can.Being a courier I get around Auckland to all four corners and am determined to do what I can to help sanity prevail and have NZ First back in parliament!

  4. Anne Martin Says:

How interesting that the New Zealand First, Rodney candidate ,experienced the same treatment as Helen Mulford in the Hunua electorate in the fairfax owned local newspapers. This when a paid advert from the candidate was in the very same edition + her billboards were in high profile positions.Sadly in this instance a direct approach by the candidate to the editor made absolutely no difference.
This party is all the stronger from this - keep the faith & more than ever don’t believe all you read and certainly not what you hear (unless it is a secret tape of a politician expressing the real truth)

Winston, how about allowing the critics n haters to go at you, like really go at u, and win people over by showing a human side to winston peters, a more sensitive side, where the attacks will work in your favour. If you keep fighting back with ‘although humourous’ but negative remarks, then the public of NZ will continue to believe that the attacks are jusitified and they wil think you deserve it. Which is what media companies like the NZ Herald want.

The way to get your enemies and competition back is by winning votes, and increasing your poll figures, which is a show that you winning peoples hearts. Your policies are sound, just win people over now, while you have the oppitunity.

Anyway, all the best n keep up the good work.

Winston i know exactly whats going on here and it is vile. It angers me that the media have been so biased and selective to attack New Zealand First in this way. It is an attack on democracy where the media owned by big business have a vendetta to destroy New Zealand First.
Media is there to report the news in an unbiased way and report the facts and this attack on democracy and fairness is repugnant.
Roger Douglas getting anywhere near parliament again is frightening and i actually wonder how strong John Keys leadership is, and whether at some point he will be rolled as leader for a new right wing agenda inclusive of Douglas ?
I am furious with National in the way they are treating our party and in the seat of Rangitata i may now abstain in giving National my electorate vote or give it to labour in protest. New Zealand First is assured of my party vote my only regret not seeking to stand with NZF in Rangitata. If there is anything i can do down here for the party you can contact me. I noticed not one billboard in our electorate as yet.

  7. Carys Grant Says:

I didn’t really answer your question-Why is the media continually attacking NZ First? It is as you say because we are a formidable force.
Even today, after several emails to the Editor of The Pakuranga and Howick Times, he eventually asked “By the way, who are you? What is your link to NZ. First?”– to which I replied “We are just concerned party members, wanting a fair deal for everyone”Detect a note of concern from him?

These local papers are read by many, many people because they are free and delivered to one’s house. They may be foreign owned, but that does not mean that we cannot question them, and make them accountable for their articles.

Many NZ First members are still “fighting” back.An elderly woman was telling how she offered a copy of our 2008 policy statement to a policeman, sitting in a car on the street near her.He repied,” No thanks. Not from that crook, Winston”Outraged at his reply, she stuck her head in the window of the car and said” If you weren’t a policeman, I would knock your teeth in”This woman is frail and elderly!I still laugh about this!

  8. Claire Says:

I have my own theory about John Key’s leadership.

He sent out letters to the elderly saying he would resign before allowing the pension to be cut or the age you can retire increased.

My theory is it was his plan all along to just get National in and then he would stand down handing it over to Bill English, so therefore the party can go back on all Key “promised”.

Winston - the Protect Your New Zealand Policy 2008 pamphlet is brilliant. I hope every household in NZ receives one.

  9. Bill Hazeldine Says:

John Key is expected to make a major anouncement in Tauranga this week. He is going to tell us that National will fund a tunnel to Welcome Bay to try and head off Winston at the pass.

  10. Kieran Welsby Says:

Well done, Winston. I too, like many other people, have being doing my best to spread the truth about you, and your party. I have not met one person to date who actually knows what really happened over the Owen Glenn media war. The media have succeded in convincing people that you ripped them off. I bet they’r sitting back and laughing their heads off, just as the National party ministers of Robert Muldoon did, while watching police brutally beat protestors outside of parliament over the Springbok tour. It is sad that our great country has been reduced to what it is now. But I won’t give up. You keep on fighting Winston, and I’ll be right there beside you.

  11. erina loo Says:

I read an article on the net by Lyndsay Perigo in which he stated that BIG BUSINESS…Alan Gibbs , Douglas Myers and the business round table are behind Hyde. He is just a puppet albeit an annoying one. Perigo also said that National plans to welcome Fay and Richwhite back to NZ. What is happening now is payback for the Wine Box enquiry.
Trevor Lewis writes really interesting posts about NZ First etc on the Xtra message boards. Early on , he was listing all of NZ First’s achievements. It would be good if this could be better publicised. He says ACT has achieved nothing.

  12. JOHANNA Says:

    GO WINSTON,

BOUT TIME THE COUNTRY HAD A COMPLETE CHANGE. AND NATIONAL DOES NOT DO IT FOR ME, WHATSOEVER. HELENS DOWN AND OUT, AND POOR JOHN KEY SHOULD GO BACK TO DROPPING THE KIDS OFF AT SCHOOOL, AND DOING CHAT SHOWS FOR THE HOUSE-WIVES ON THE GOOD MORNING SHOW. ANYWAY I SAY GO FOR IT WINSTON. ALL THE BEST

  13. Ann Vanderkop Says:

    Winston.

The election results must be a terrible blow for you, although not unexpected after the the dirty tricks brigade went to work. As the democratic process was tinkered and interfered with by forces of the extreme right, who do not have the good of this country at heart, I do not intend to ever take part in the election process again. I wish you the best of luck for your future, whatever course that may take. Thank you for all your sacrifices over the years.

    Kind regards
    Ann Vanderkop.
